The Somerset team of the National Garden Scheme needs volunteers, and particularly, a new Assistant County Organiser. So, if you have a love of gardens, a sense of humour, and a bit of spare time, would enjoy talking to garden openers and visitors, they would love to hear from you.
Thanks to the generosity of garden owners, volunteers and visitors, the National Garden Scheme has donated almost £78 million to some of the UK’s best-loved nursing and health, and gardening charities since 1927.
Volunteers join the county team under the guidance of the County Organiser, who manages the volunteers, and are fully supported by more experienced county volunteers. Relevant training and help will be available. The main task will be to support the garden owners, who open their gardens for the NGS, by maintaining contact prior and during to their open day to ensure the opening is successful.
Volunteers ensure that existing gardens continue to reach the required standard and may be able to secure new gardens. There are a few events and meetings each year. Volunteers are based at home, likely to look after gardens within a reasonable distance, need to be mobile and have basic computer skills and email access.
