For garden lovers, the Victorian Fern Garden was awarded Plant Heritage National Collection status in 2022, and is an historic snapshot of the 19th century craze for ferns and fairies.
Families can explore the adventure playgrounds, with refreshments in the lakeside cafe, and there’s a gift shop. Open 10am-5pm. 20 per cent of admission price will be donated to Hospiscare. Southey Farm, Sampford Courtenay, Okehampton, EX20 2TE opens for Hospiscare on Saturday 16th September from 9am until 4pm. Highlights include a box maze, a Japanese garden, a cottage garden, a tropical garden and more than 100 different varieties of holly. Admission by donation. There’s parking for around ten cars available in the farmyard. Most of the garden is accessible by wheelchair or mobility scooter. Dogs on short leads allowed.
