Whetman Pinks is a family business established in 1936 based near Dawlish, Devon, specialising in modern hybrid varieties of Dianthus (English Pinks) and is the world leader in its field. Around 5 million young plants are produced annually and despatched from the end of January until the beginning of November. Cuttings are harvested from virus indexed mother stock, ensuring the highest quality and vigour. The resultant young plants are distributed throughout the UK and exported to mainland Europe. Whetman Pinks has a comprehensive breeding programme and is proud to have introduced many award winning varieties and ranges in recent years. The cultivars grown and raised by Whetman are renowned for their hardiness to heat and cold, as well as their famous fragrance.
They are easy to grow provided with the right conditions; full sun, well drained fertile neutral to alkaline soil (clay soil areas are advised to grow in containers using a proprietary compost), and fed regularly during the flowering season (from mid February to mid October, depending on location).
Whetman Pinks has won several awards recently:
The Queen's Awards for Enterprise for International Trade 2013
Overall Grower of the Year 2013
Best New Herbaceous Perennial 2013 for Memories
Western Morning News Business Awards 2012 Employer of the Year
